As part of Nuart Aberdeen 2026, JCE delivered a fully off-grid hybrid power solution to support artist Robert Montgomery’s illuminated installation at Bon Accord Baths, one of the festival’s most unique venues to date.

Operating entirely within the historic Art Deco surroundings of Bon Accord Baths, the project required a silent, low impact, and fully modular energy solution capable of powering both the artwork installation and essential venue infrastructure without reliance on permanent mains power.

Robert Montgomery’s large scale text installation, Even After All This Time the Sun Never Says to the Earth “You Owe Me”, formed a centrepiece of the festival and welcomed visitors throughout the event period.

The Challenge

Delivering reliable power inside a historic indoor venue presented several operational and environmental challenges.

The system needed to:

  • Operate fully off-grid with no permanent site infrastructure
  • Deliver 100% silent operation suitable for an indoor public environment
  • Minimise emissions and disruption within a heritage venue
  • Support continuous operation throughout opening hours
  • Provide safe visitor access and emergency exit guidance lighting
  • Remain flexible and scalable for temporary event requirements

The Solution

JCE deployed a modular hybrid battery inverter system specifically designed for temporary off-grid applications and indoor environments.

The system configuration included:

  • 1 x Three-Phase Norco Inverter System
  • 1 x JCE Single-Phase Inverter System
  • Deconstructed Portable Hybrid Power Unit (PHPU) configuration
  • 50kWh battery storage system
  • Modular battery inverter architecture
  • Fully silent battery-powered operation
  • Rapid deployment and flexible installation

The modular design allowed additional battery storage to be integrated if increased power demand or extended operating durations were required, providing flexibility for future event applications.

Designed for reliable off-grid performance, the hybrid system delivered stable and efficient power throughout the installation period while eliminating the noise and emissions typically associated with conventional generator only setups.
